Goong He Faat Choy!
Welcome to Wellington’s celebration of Chinese New Year
The Festival has grown into a major cultural experience in Wellington’s event calendar and we
invite you to help bring in the Year of the Tiger. Personality traits of the Tiger are characterised
by strength and independence, bridled with an impulsive nature.
The celebrations begin with booming firecrackers, and leading the way is the Sin Nian Tiger Party
at Capital E, where the young and the young at heart try their hand at tiger inspired crafts; a
day for the kids and families. For something more fashionable, make sure you make it to
New Clothes for the New Year, showcasing street fashion and funky dance, and is based on
the tradition of wearing new clothes to see the New Year in, thereby encouraging good luck
for the coming year. And the flagship, Festival Day brings three more events; a colourful Street
Parade through Courtenay Place to the Waterfront; a bustling Asian Market, and a stunning
Cultural showcase of local and international performances.
Make a date to come and enjoy all these free activities.
